Once a month, a veritable army of blue t-shirts spends an early hour of their weekend scouring the local beaches for litter. They don't have to look hard; despite the council's weekly mechanical clean, many smaller fragments remain, with plastic straws and cigarette butts often the biggest culprits.
It seems that the message to not be a tosser, isn't get through to users of Rouse Street at least, a 1km stretch of which, recently provided members of Beach Patrol with a staggering 3,241 butts for a survey as part of the local ongoing No Cuts No Butts campaign.
