For those who felt a twinge of jealousy today as the council had its annual splash out on the unique spectacle that is the St Kilda Festival, fear not. Lowly old Port Melbourne is set to debut its very own road closures and block rocking beats,
albeit with a twist ... the festival wear of choice will be lycra.
The inaugral Port Melbourne Bikefest will see Bay Street closed off all the way between Bridge Street and the beach to make way for a variety of two-wheeled activities. The event is supported by Crossys, a charitable fund set-up in memory of musician James Cross who was tragically killed in a dooring accent, for whom The Local and The Exchange will be hosting a packed evening of local music. It's all happening on Sunday the 3rd of March (which, for the community minded, also happens to be Clean Up Australia Day).

Bike Fest is explicitly not about lycra. Their motto is taking the sport out of transport and celebrating bikes in every day life.
