Sloaney Pony

The Sloaney Pony sits proudly at the top of Bay Street (technically the beginning of Crockford Street), its rustic stripped exterior the result one suspects of the lurid paint job of the pub's previous incarnation, the Drifter's Alibi. Originally the Fountain Inn, the Sloaney is far better placed than the Hotel Albion to lay claim to being a Port Melbourne landmark.
The large, electic, bar is home to a pleasing combination of Chesterfields and more eating-oriented seating. During the day light streams in through the huge arched windows, whilst at night it is intimately lit. Although this effect is slightly diminished by the large expanses of standing/dancing floor space, which are however put to good use with live music every weekend.

This pub has been through a number of incarnations including a 5 year stint as the Blarney Stone Irish Pub  and has seen its fair share of history. Fifty people were marooned there during the big flood of 1863, and the  archives also reveal a daring safe heist worthy of a Hollywood film.
